Great post! I have a question about Yellowstone based on your info, though. Those early boosters who promoted the myth of the earliest settlers having a conversation about not having the region privatized, what got them interested in the Yellowstone region to begin with? Why were they promoting it as such vs other natural wonders that later became national parks?
I don't really mind that the federal government owns it, but it does seem ridiculous as a national park. How the Statue of Liberty is a classified as a "national monument" despite it being exponentially more historically and culturally prominent than the Gateway Arch, is beyond me. Neither should be national parks, in my opinion, but it's just wild.

The Arch should be a private attraction, not maintained by the government, but most of the St Louis Area isn’t doing well
