Progress but no commitment to stop Amazon Rainforest deforestation
South American countries came short of actually ending deforestation of the world's most important forest.
So close, yet so far away. Earlier this week, the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) gathered to convene over ending the deforestation of the mighty Amazon Rainforest completely. And while it’s great that they were meeting at all, they came up short of making any sort of formal commitment to ending deforestation. In particular, Brazil, who has the largest portion of the rainforest seems intent on at least continuing to search for oil in the rainforest, even while publicly saying that deforestation needs to end.
