Geography is the news: An Oregon county sues Big Oil
Multnomah County, home to Portland, Oregon, has decided to take on Big Oil for causing the 2021 heat dome weather event in the Pacific Northwest.
Welcome to the first ever edition of “Geography is the news” where I’ll be talking about some sort of current event happening in the world and walking through some of the underlying geographies. Geography is, if nothing else, is how we can explain how the world is connected and, as such, there’s typically a geography attached to damn near everything.
Today’s article is a good one because it really spans the spectrum of geography from local, to regional, to global! So let’s talk a bit about Multnomah County and their lawsuit against Big Oil.
