In this sense, Alaska is more similar to the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut in northern Canada (plus the northern parts of many of the provinces right to the south) than to the Lower 48.
And to think it was offered to the Canadians by the Russians, with all that offshore oil fields, for just a couple of millions.
